Information about SDCCS

The San Diego Cooperative Charter School (SDCCS) is a tuition-free K-8 public school. As a charter school, SDCCS is a school of choice. SDCCS does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, religious creed, color, national origin, gender, age, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, political belief or activity, or status as a veteran. We encourage a diverse student base and, since we are a charter school, can accept children from anywhere in San Diego County.  However, as we are a part of San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), students who live within SDUSD’s boundaries receive priority.

To check to district boundaries, visit SDUSD’s Do you live in SDUSD

Students applying for Kindergarten must be five years of age on or before December 2, 2010 in order to be considered for enrollment for the 2010/2011 school year.
Completed applications may be returned to the SDCCS office by:

Fax to 858-467-9741, Attn: Admissions
Dropped off in person to the main office.

Acceptance of an enrollment application does not guarantee placement at SDCCS.  To receive a confirmation of receipt, e-mail admissions@sdccs.org or call 858-496-1613.

2009-2010 School Year

SDCCS is currently full with waiting lists at all grade levels.  We are no longer accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year as we are working on enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year.

2010-2011 School Year

Applications for the 10-11 school year submitted after January 31, 2010:
Open enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is now closed.  Any applications received after January 31, 2010 will be placed at the end of the grade level specific waiting list in the order received.  We currently have a waiting list for all grade levels.

Special note for parents planning to apply for kindergarten for the 10-11 school year:
Due to the large amount of applications received during the open enrollment period, it is unlikely that applicants who apply for kindergarten after the January 31st deadline will be offered a space.

Mandatory School Tours

The parent/guardian must attend one school tour.  Tours are given by SDCCS parent volunteers and are held regularly throughout the school year at various times in order to accommodate a range of schedules. These tours detail the expectations of the families who elect to enroll at SDCCS and provide opportunities for families to ask questions and become familiar with our school facility and community.  A tour is not required before submitting an application; however, it is mandatory before attending SDCCS.

Tours are not being offered at this time.

Applicants for the 2011-2012 school year can sign up for tours beginning October 2010.
Our tour committee will contact you with upcoming dates and times of scheduled tours.

Lottery Information

All applicants who submitted enrollment applications before the open enrollment deadline become members of the applicant pool and are eligible to participate in the lottery system.  Grade level vacancies are filled in priority order. Siblings of returning students will be given priority in the lottery process. District restrictions may apply.  When there are more applicants than there is capacity to enroll, then a lottery shall be held to determine the order of enrollment.

Applicants will be admitted in the order their names are drawn at random from the collection of applicants. Once capacity has been reach for a grade, the names are placed on a waiting list in the order in which they were drawn.  After the lottery period ends, applications will be filed by date received. We create waiting lists for all the grade levels and will notify the next in line on the list if there are any vacancies.

2010-2011 School Year Lottery Procedure
Open Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year was from October 1, 2009 through January 31, 2010. A supervised public lottery will be held on February 17, 2010.  All applicants will receive notice via the US Postal Service after February 19, 2010.

Accepted Applicants

If a student's application is selected for enrollment and the parent elects not to enroll the student, their space will be forfeited. Parent acceptance must be indicated in writing and must be received within the deadline specified in the notification or else the space will be forfeited. Forfeited spaces will be treated as new openings and will be filled from the official waiting list.

After accepting a space, the student will be officially registered at SDCCS after the submission of the completed registration packet.  The packet includes up-to-date immunizations and a health check-up for kindergarten and first grade.  Students will not be enrolled without a completed registration packet.

Applicants on the Waiting List

Spaces may become available during the rest of the current school year and throughout the summer.  We will continue to notify applicants based on their position on the waiting list if and/or when space is available.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to keep up-to-date contact information on file with the SDCCS office.  If applicants are planning to be out of town for an extended period of time, we recommend that alternate contact information is on file.
